Ingredients For A Single Bow:
*(5-6) 18" Korker Ribbons; Or As Many As You Prefer, About 5 yds Of Ribbon
*Approx. 12" Of Any Kind Of String, Adjust Amount As Needed (1/8" Elastic is being used for Demonstration)
*(4) Small Rectangles of Cardboard, approx. 1-1.5" x 4", folded in half; OR
(4) 2-Inch "L" Brackets~Can Be Screwed To A Board For A Secure Hold
*Ruler, Marked In Inches
*Ultra Sharp Scissors
*Glue Gun; Glue Stick or Industrial Strength Glue (E-6000, Goop Crafters Glue)
*Hair Clips Of Your Choice
*Fray Check Liquid OR Woodburning Tool For Heatsealing
*26-Gauge or 30-Gauge Wire (Optional)

Step 1: Begin By Cutting Your Korker Ribbons In 2.5" Pieces; OR Any Length You Desire.

Step 2: This Is What You Will Have When You Finish All Of The Measuring And Cutting. Apply A Small Amount Of Liquid Fray Check To The Ends Of Each And Every Ribbon Cut To Keep Them Neat and Tidy. You can also substitute the fray check for the neato woodburning tool mentioned above

Step 3: If You Are Doing A Single Color Bow Or A Random Mix, You Can Simply Lay The Ribbon In A Pile Over Your String. Make Sure The Cuts Are Centered On Top Of The String For Best Results

Step 4: Tie A Knot With The String Over The Top Of Your Stack Of Ribbon Cuts

Step 5: Pull The String To Tighten The Center Of The Bow. Here Is Your Bow With A Tightened Center DOUBLE Knot. Notice The Shape Of The Bow Has Already Been Established. It Is At This Point That You Can Wrap The Wire Around The Elastic For A More Secure Hold If Desired. Proceed To Step #12

Step 6: Here Is How To Set Up Your "L" Brackets So You Can Do A Layered, Snowball Bow. Lay A Piece Of String/Elastic Down Horizontally Between The Sets Of Brackets. Depending On How Many Cuts You Are Using Per Row, You Can Adjust The Width Of The Brackets Accordingly

Step 7: Add The First Layer Of Ribbon Cuts. When You Flip The Bow Over, This Color Will Become Your Middle Layer Of The Finished Bow. You Want To Be Sure That You Layer The Colors UPSIDE DOWN From What You Want Your Finished Bow To Look Like

Here Is Your Bow When You Flip It Over. As Before, If You Have Ends That Stick Out Further Than The Others, Just Gently Pull The OPPOSITE Ends Of That Cut Until It Lines Up With The Other To Achieve The Snowball Effect

Step 11: You Can Cover Your Alligator Clip In Flat 3/8" Ribbon Using Hot Glue So The Metal Doesn't Show (A Double Prong Clips Is Being Used Above)

Step 13: Wrap A Small Piece (2.5-3") Of Korker Ribbon Tightly Over The Elastic/Wire To Cover It Up. It Is Best To Match The Center Ribbon With The Ribbon Used To Cover The Clip (I Used Contrasting Ribbon For Demo Purposes)

Step 15: If You Are Using French Clips, Remove The Spring From The French Clip. This Can Be Easily Replaced To Hold Hair More Securely If Needed

The Sweet Cupcake Bow Uses (36) 2.5" Cuts And Has A Finished Size Of About 3". The Multi-Colored Bows At The Top Of The Page Use 46 Ribbon Cuts. I Would Recommend Using AT LEAST 30 Cuts But No More Than About 50 cuts. Experimenting With The Colors Of Ribbon In Your Layers Will Product Great Effects :0)

If you want to curl your own ribbon, this is what I suggest:
*1/4" or 5/16" wooden dowels, cut to the length you want your
korkers (18" is standard but add an inch to what you want the
finished product length to be (18" korker=19" dowel).
*The dowels will start out smooth and then roughen up as you bake with them. You may want to use some fine grit sandpaper to keep the roughies away. They'll eventually get to the point where they stay
smooth without any need for touch-ups.
*Wooden Clothespins for each end of the dowels~the mini ones are perfect for this BUT don't get the colored ones as the colors will run onto your ribbon
*Wrap any kind of 100% Polyester FABRIC ribbon (grosgrain, satin, woven, jacquard, organza, petersham, etc.--JUST NOT CRAFT, FLORAL, OR OUTDOOR/WATERPROOF RIBBON) along the dowel without overlapping and secure
each end with a clothespin or other oven-friendly clip (See photos below for the mini clothespins).

*The tighter you roll the ribbon on the dowel, the tigher your curl will be (See photos below for spacing on dowels).
*DO NOT wet the ribbon. It is HEAT, not WATER that curls the ribbon so wetting it will only create problems:
1. It's messy
2. The water baking off creates a HORRIBLE smell
3. It doubles the baking time (or more)
4. It wastes electricity, i.e. MONEY

*Use a super clean oven, especially the roof--this will prevent
"drips". Place the oven rack in the center position, completely
covered in aluminum foil. Remove all other upper racks so you'll have
enough space for your dowels:

*Heat oven to 275 degrees, bake for 15-25 minutes--this is the
trickiest part. You'll have to play around with the temp and time
to find what works best for you. Gently slide one ribbon off the dowel.
If the curls are tight and even, you're done. If they're too loose, pop them back
in until you get to 20-25 minutes.
*Be very careful when baking these that the dowels and clothespins
don't get near the element or you'll smell smoke! Been there, done
that, burned a few :0(
*If your ribbons turn brown (mostly on white and light colored
ribbon) or get dirt drips, just pop them in the washer (use a
lingerie bag). Don't use the dryer. Rewrap, rebake, and you're
back in business.
